In
order to try and give increased coverage to the rapidly increasing multitude of
releases we’ve access to we’ve decided to try a little experiment with reviews.
To give more bands more exposure we’re going to start doing occasional 3 part
reviews that detail 3 releases, it means shorter but more to-the-point reviews
of much more of the quality music coming your way over the next few months.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy them too of course…..
Sepulchral
Temple - Self Titled (2014)
Invictus Productions
Sepulchral
Temple’s self-titled debut EP was originally unleashed on 12” vinyl by Iron Bonehead
Productions last year but is poised to raise its ugly head from the catacombs
once more with a CD release via Dublin’s Invictus Productions on 24th
November 2014. Sepulchral Temple is a three piece hailing from the UK that plays
deep, cavernous, sepulchral death metal along the lines of Sheol, Cruciamentum,
Incantation and Grave Miasma. There are four tracks which you could whittle
down to two as each main track also features a brief outro. This is powerful,
crushing, and highly authentic death metal that belies the fact it’s also a
debut. It’s a release that most definitely deserves a listen and leaves the
listener craving more from the band. This type of Death Metal has recently been
experiencing its most productive phase in decades but it’s a case of the more
the better provided they can all deliver death metal to this very high
standard. Brilliant.

Ghoulgotha - Prophetic Oration of Self (2014)
Blood Harvest
Prophetic
Oration of Self is Ghoulgotha’s debut 7” release, following a split with Into Darkness.
This provides a nice taste of what we can expect from their debut album which
is set to come out via Dark Descent Records early next year. Ghoulgotha is the
latest musical endeavour from the ever productive Wayne Sarantopolous whose
other bands include Father Befouled, Decrepotaph and Encoffination. Ghoulgotha
reap a tortured, twisted blend of primal doom infused chugging death metal. Ghoulgotha’s
first track is a seven minute barrage of pummelling, punishing, discordant
death metal that’s as doom-laden as it is heavy. This track maintains a very
slow pace from the two minute mark onwards with any forays into speedier
territory being sporadic and short-lived. Side two sees a very different
approach from Ghoulgotha as Disintegration Paradox assumes a much quicker pace
– the chugging riffs are phenomenally catchy and force the head to nod without
you even noticing. By and large this track is faster than its predecessor but
there are elements of doom and even blues influenced guitar at times. A solid enough
release and track two is an absolute smasher!

Blaspherian
– Upon the Throne… of Eternal Blasphemous Death (2014)
Iron Bonehead Productions
From
Houston, Texas these God haters have been creating blasphemous, satanic death
metal since 2004 with many releases under their belt to date. Iron Bonehead
recently revealed they will be releasing Blaspherian’s latest 7” EP on the 28th
of November. Entitled Upon the Throne…of Eternal Blasphemous Death, this is a release
that peddles its hate-filled blasphemy from the off with its cover nicely
setting a tone for the demented music held within. Blaspherian play guttural,
mid-pace, filthy death metal that will ring true for fans of Obituary, Autopsy
etc. The EP features two tracks, both of which are very strong – if you like
your death metal gritty, dirty and filled with hate then you have come to the
right place. This is a blasphemy filled death metal trip that that was more
than enough for me to give me an interest to seek out their other releases.
Their music is befitting of a label like Iron Bonehead, meeting its extremely
high standards with this excellent EP.
