There's a real, positive, buzz surrounding independent horror right now. Sure, it's always been there to a certain degree, but not quite in the positive way that, for the most part, it is now. This is due, of course, to the quality of films that are getting released, but also in no small part due to the positive word of mouth that accompanies so many of these film. One such movie is director Joe Stauffer's Pieces of Talent; a film that I have heard nothing but good things about.
Sure, every film, good or bad, will have it fans, but it is very rare that the overwhelming majority is this positive. Rare, but most welcome.
As for the film itself, it is now available to buy on DVD, VHS and even Digital, for your viewing pleasure, with August 5th being the film's official release date (even though it has been available before this date). So, why not head over to Pieces of Talent's Official Site and check out what goodies are available for your purchasing pleasure? You can even add the code 'horror' and get $2.00 off your purchase! I hope to be able to post a review in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.
Set in the small coastal town of Bright Leaf, North Carolina, Pieces of Talent centers around Charlotte, a disillusioned aspiring actress that can barely get by. Charlotte catches a break when seemingly chance circumstances put her in contact with a local filmmaker, David Long. David and Charlotte form a quick friendship that leads to Charlotte landing the starring role in David’s newest project. David quickly becomes obsessed with Charlotte and begins building his bloody masterpiece. David is a happily obsessed individual willing to do whatever it takes to make “true art.” He utilizes his charm and skills to make something dark and deranged seem utterly beautiful and loving.
