In the mood for some Korean savagery? You are? Fantastic, because thanks to Well Go USA I have a copy of the Bedevilled Blu-ray up for grabs. I reviewed the movie recently, which you can check out here, and was very impressed with it. It's a slow-burning journey that delights in giving the viewing a good solid beating. So, read on for details on how to win yourself a copy.

Filthy Review - 'Apartment 143'
Apartment 143
(2011)
Review by Jude
Felton
Apartment 143
will, no doubt, fall into the category of being a found footage movie, and as
with any other ‘trend’ of horror flick it will have its fans and detractors
purely on whether the viewer likes said sub-genre. That’s fair enough, although
Apartment 143 (Emergo) is not a found footage film; there’s no evidence here in
the movie that tells us the footage shot was ‘found’, because it wasn’t lost in
the first place. Yes, it is shot from the point of view of security cameras and
hand-held cameras, but found footage it is not.

Filmed about an hour away from where I now sit, the Corey Feldman movie 6 Degrees of Hell is all set for a Blu-ray and DVD release from the terrific Breaking Glass Pictures. The film will hit shiny on November 27th and also stars Jill Whelan, Brian Anthony Wilson and Faust Checho. 6 Degrees of Hell was directed by Joe Raffa and is currently on a limited theatrical run. The film stars Selma Blair, Josh Close, Rachel Miner and James D'Arcy, and was directed by Jeremy Power Regimbal, and judging from the preview looks to be an intriguing movie. Filthy Review - 'The Raven'
The Raven
(2012)
Review by Jude
Felton
As a fan of
all things macabre, it surprises me that in all my years I have never sat down
and read any of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. What? You might say, but there
are only so many hours in the day and it’s just never happened. Of course, I
have seen many of the numerous movie adaptations of his work, but never read
any. By add salt to this gaping wound, I should add that on the bookshelf at
home we do actually have Poe’s complete works in one mighty tome. I endeavor to
rectify this in the near future.
New poster unveiled for 'ThanksKilling 3'
As far as movie posters go, I have to say that the new one for the upcoming release of ThanksKilling 3 is quite a cool one. The movie, which is directed by Jordan Downey, will be released on November 13th (just in time for Thanksgiving of course) and follows the exploits of the murderous Turkie! Missed ThanksKilling 2? There's a good reason for that...

Filthy Review - 'American Horror Story: The Complete First Season'
American
Horror Story: The Complete First Season (2011)
Review by Jude
Felton
The last
couple of years have been good to genre fans on TV; even outside of the premium
channels. The Walking Dead hit AMC in 2010, and has proved to be a great show (if
you can get AMC that is), and then last year FX debuted American Horror Story.
Having followed the show during its initial run I can honestly say that of the
two shows I enjoy American Horror Story more. Now, you can catch up on the
entire first season of twelve episodes on this 3 disc release.
Q&A with Apartment 143's Carles Torrens

Filthy Review - 'Basket Case 3: The Progeny'
Basket Case 3:
The Progeny (1992)
Review by Jude
Felton
Timing, as
they say, is everything, and in the case of this release of Basket Case 3 it
couldn’t be truer. At just about the same time that it was announced that
Synapse would be releasing Basket Case 3: The Progeny on DVD, to follow up
their 2007 release of Basket Case 2, news came in that Second Sight Films in
the UK would be releasing the Basket Case trilogy on DVD and Blu-ray. Who would
have known? Sometimes movie releases are like buses; you wait ages for one,
then two come along at the same time!

Filthy Review - 'My Ex'
My Ex (2010)
Review by Jude
Felton
During the
course of 2012 MVM Entertainment have released a couple of pretty darned good
Thai horror flicks, with The House and The Victim both getting DVD releases in
the UK. The good news is that this trend looks to continue for at least a
little while longer, with the DVD release of Piyapan Choopetch’s My Ex. I
believe they also have the sequel, My Ex 2: Haunted Lover, on the cards for
2013 as well.
Filthy Review - 'The Barrens'
The Barrens
(2012)
Review by Jude
Felton
Darren Lynn
Bousman has proved to be a quite prolific director, so much so that I was
unaware that he was even making The Barrens, let alone it getting a Blu-ray
release. He first came to our attention with a triple-whammy of Saw films, all
of which I thoroughly enjoy, and then came the rather wonderful Repo: The
Genetic Opera. After this it goes a bit ass about tit, with 11-11-11 coming out
on DVD around about the same time as his Mother’s Day reboot hit shiny.
11-11-11 being a misfire for the most part, although not terrible, and the long
delayed Mother’s Day being a wonderfully brutal home invasion flick. Now, we
have The Barrens dropping on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, as I wait quietly for The
Devil’s Carnival to get a wide release. For those that have lost count, that’s
9 films in 7 years. Told you he was prolific.
Filthy Review - 'Holliston: The Complete First Season'
Holliston:
The Complete First Season (2012)
Review by Jude
Felton
Holliston is
the brainchild of directors’ Adam Green and Joe Lynch, and attempts to take the
sitcom world and throw it a little bit of genre love. It originally screened on
FearNET and follows Adam and Joe as they shuffle through life in a slackerish
manner, and occasionally it works. Then again it also falls short on many
occasions.
Filthy Review - 'Night of the Living Dead' Twilight Time Edition
Night of the
Living Dead (1990) Twilight Time Limited Edition
Review by
Jude Felton
Generally
speaking, when I review a movie, it is the movie itself that I like to review.
I don’t go too deep into the specifics of the release itself, aside from making
mention that a particular Blu-ray looks good or what have you. I might mention
some of the extras included, but for the most part I like to focus on the film
itself; I really don’t have the technical savvy to go into transfers and
picture ratios extra. Some do, I don’t. On this occasion I do believe it is
necessary to address the specific release itself though. I had to, after all
there are only 3000 copies of this release, and it’s already causing a shit
storm.
Filthy Review - 'Bedevilled'
Bedevilled
(2010)
Review by Jude
Felton
If I wanted
to describe the Korean flick Bedevilled in a short and simple manner, I would
just say that it is a revenge flick. That would really be a disservice to this
incredibly bleak and brutal exercise in terror. It is a horror film, yet it is
also a drama, in fact it doesn’t fit neatly into any category, suffice to say
that it is a slow-burning and at times harrowing film, which shifts your focus
quite cleverly during its running time.
Filthy Review - 'Werewolf: The Beast Among Us'
Werewolf: The
Beast Among Us (2012)
Review by Jude
Felton
Werewolf: The
Beast Among Us originally started off life as a sequel/spin-off (call it what
you will) to the 2010 movie The Wolfman. Now, for whatever reason, it has been
given a new life as an ‘all new movie’, with little or no connection to the Joe
Johnston flick. Well, aside from the obvious fact that there’s a werewolf in
it! What Universal has done is try to recreate the classic Universal flicks of
old, albeit it with a modern twist, and the results are surprisingly fun.
