Filthy Review - 'Wild Bill'

Wild Bill (2011)

Review by Jude Felton

Wild Bill is the directorial debut of one Dexter Fletcher. Now, you might not know his name, but he is the same fella that once proclaimed that guns were for show, and knives were indeed for a pro. That was back in 1998 when Guy Ritchie exploded on to the movie world with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Now it is Fletcher’s turn to try and make an impact with his foray into the world of directing.

Filthy Review - 'The Collective Vol.4: Emotions'

The Collective Vol 4: Emotions (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

I should really preface this review by saying that I have taken far too long to write the damned thing. The thing is I have been really impressed with The Collective Volumes 1-3, and I have been excited about watching the 4th entry into the series (I can tell you now that Vol 5 is already on its way!). JABB Pictures came up with the simple premise of taking one synopsis and then having 10 filmmakers each make a movie, of 10 minutes in duration, all with this one synopsis. The results thus far have been incredibly good, with a real variety of styles and stories.

Filthy Review - 'Him Indoors'

Him Indoors (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

The last time I saw Paul Davis, who is the director of Him Indoors, he was on a murderous rampage, as Death Face, in the excellent short film The Other Side. With Him Indoors he steps behind the camera, and is no less murderous in this blackest of comedies.

Filthy Review - 'A Little Bit Zombie'

A Little Bit Zombie (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

When it comes to blending horror and comedy, it would appear that zombies lend themselves to humor far more than, shall we say, vampires. This is evident of the numerous zombie comedies that have appeared of late. Of course, that Granddaddy of them all is Return of the Living Dead, but over recent years the comparisons have always been made to that wee English flick that came out a few years back. You know the one I mean, kind of like Macbeth is the ‘Scottish’ play, well this particular English film is the ‘zombie comedy’.

Filthy Review - 'Famine'

Famine (2011)

Review by Jude Felton

Canadian writer/director doesn’t play by the rules, he makes down and dirty horror and exploitation flicks, and by all accounts he seems to not give one shit about conforming to any rules. His films tend to be incredibly violent and filled to the brim with bodily fluids, and did I mention that they are usually great fun? I didn’t? Well, they are! Torched and Live Feed were fairly serious affairs, for the most part, but with the triple-header of Gutterballs, Hanger and Bleading Lady, there was a thick vein (in more ways than one) of filthy black humor. This humor is also prevalent in his latest movie, Famine, along with copious amounts of violence.

Filthy Review - 'The Pirates: Band of Misfits'

The Pirates: Band of Misfits (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

Never let it be said that there is any justice in the world of movies. Some movies, inexplicably, rake it in at the theaters, with no rhyme, reason or any logical explanation for it. Then there are those that really should have every seat filled, yet the people stay away. In the four months that The Pirates: Band of Misfits was at the theater it took considerably less than its budget. More is the shame, as this movie is bloody hilarious!

'Bedevilled' coming soon to Blu-ray and DVD

Filthy Review - 'The Tall Man'

The Tall Man (2012)

Review by Jude Felton

In 2008 director Pascal Laugier unleashed the devastating Martyrs on an unsuspecting public. This was one film that once you have watched you won’t soon forget; it’s brutal and heartbreaking, and quite excellent. Now, four years on and he is back with his English language debut, The Tall Man, which might not pack the same visceral punch as its predecessor, but it is still no less powerful in its own right.
